Belshazzar when he tasted the wine,
commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver
that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of
the temple in Jerusalem be brought,
that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines
might drink from them.

They drank wine and praised the gods
of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.

Daniel 5:12 and 4

The king knew that Nebuchadnezzar had won a great victory over Israel. So perhaps he sought the same god which had granted that easy victory. His only hope left for victory over Persia was with the same god that had conquered Israel. Being a heathen, he assumed the god of Israel dwelt in the holy vessels of the temple worship.

Ever we remove the Person of God for the things of God. By fear in crisis we want to manage the Most High on our terms, to serve our agenda.

Our present danger is to miss the actual protection and inward peace that God gives, when we run to Him and accept the mystery of His dominion.

Our crisis of danger is never the visible situation. The only REAL trouble is separation from the Lord Himself as a Real Being and the making of a silent substitute, cold and unanswering.

This simple verse, clear and actual is a beam of light for us NOW: Jesus said, I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

The “way” is a Person. Truth is not truth. Truth is a Living Person. And Life is only ONE: Christ.
