“The primary, central, issue of being a believer is love - being loved by God and loving Him in return.” — Martha Kilpatrick (The Love God Cherishes)

We murder reputations, we kill relationships,
we annihilate confidence, we crush individuality,
we quench life and terminate the move of God.
 We curse with thoughts and
kill with words. We plot to destroy. The ancients killed the prophets because they
were the closest link to the God who kept interrupting
 their schemes to rule.
To put away the prophet is to kill the Voice of God.

The Old Testament is a
4000 year record of the helplessness of humanity,
proof of total futility and ultimate ruin.

Our delusion is that we are gods,
knowing good and evil.
Our fantasy is that "knowing" makes us able.

And The Father proved us wrong in a
long, long historical record of absolute failure.

With God's best giving: His manna-providing,
His fiery-protection,
over and over again, by the
foot-worn path of rejecting God,
His choice people abandoned Him,
preferring imaginary gods made like
their own worst self.

Our Adamic bones hold the marrow of hating God
for His blessings, so we leave Him for
dead gods we can dominate.

With the exception of a few fleeting lights
the Old Testament descends
down, down, humanity ever worsening.

He was finished striving with man.
God had proven His point - humanity was hopeless.

We are helpless, hopeless failures.
The best of us, the worst of us. All the same.

And in the 400 years between Malachi and Matthew,
God left the world in silence.
No splendid record of His Dealings.
No scribe to write His Brilliance.

Four Hundred silent years where God's voice was
not heard.

Many never noticed the reverberating silence
of the heavens, the great void of
Meaningful Sound . . . .

The silence prepared the way for the Word.
