The Hour of Our Destiny
The Hour of Our Destiny
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

In one hour of a normal sunny day our nation was catapulted into war,
and the world with us. That one hour has brought us to our destiny. Each of us live and are alive for this hour. So we, the ordinary, the young, the too old, we ALL are in a war that has knocked down our front door, right up the street from us. By this sudden emergency, we face an uncertain future. The security of yesterday was blown away by the 'today' frozen in time called "September 11th." Our future as a nation lies in the hands of believers in the Only Son of God, Jesus Christ, and our personal lives hang suspended in that balance.

Dearest brother and sisters who are reading these pages,

Please endure with me while I open my heart for a moment before you. Normally I don't share personally when I write for the website. In this situation I am such a small student, constantly striving to understand God's will and His ways in this hour . . . .

During Desert Storm, since I was alone and communicating with no one else, I just moved and prayed as I was led by the Holy Spirit. This war and my situation are so different. Here I am with a website and my heart's desire is not only to report what I see (so that many can agree in prayer) but to help others enter that place of dominion in prayer, to rise in intercession to the throne where God's activity is the victory . . . not just for this war situation but for all of life. I have to find out what it was I learned back in that war and be able to put it into words. I must have great wisdom in sharing what the Lord shows me. It's like living in a glass house but I am the one who could break it with my own clumsy mistakes . . .

I have been so broken before the Lord with questions . . .   Am I seeing right? Am I to ask You to see these things? Am I to tell publicly what I have seen? Am I being presumptuous? I have been desperate to hear Abba's answer to this ignorant child.

My Father has taken me to a story in the Old Testament and assured me with clear answers for this time, about war on earth and its victory in the heavenlies . . . .

2 Kings 6:8-24

The King of Aram was at war with Israel. Wherever he camped, Elisha knew it through communion with God and would tell the King of Israel so that he could avoid the enemy. The King of Aram began to think he had a traitor in his officers but one of them knew about Elisha, "the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom." So the king ordered an army to go and capture Elisha.

Imagine now! The war is being managed and the enemy thwarted by one man of God. Such is the power of the Christian life that lives bowed in the presence of Almighty, and comes to know as He knows. I believe absolutely that this should be the norm not the exception. The privilege and calling of God is for the saints to rule the earth with His will . . . even now. Of this I am unshakably certain. Rees Howell was an Elisha of World War II.

The king "sent horses and chariots and a strong force there" to Dothan where Elisha was living. (Elisha is called in the story simply the man of God. He has been swallowed into God and had not lost his identity but found himself there and so he has no need for his name to be touted. This is one reason he was so intimate with God. Note it well!)

2 Kings 6:15 . . . the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?" the servant asked.

"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered.
"Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."

And Elisha prayed, "O Lord, open his eyes so he may see." Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

Around Elisha! The enemy camps toward the Elisha-prophet but there are unseen others who were also camping there! Surrounding him with chariots and fire! "The angel of the Lord encamps around those that fear Him, and rescues them."
(Ps. 34:7 NAS) It is real!

Elisha prayed for the army of Aram to be blinded and then he led them straight to the King of Israel in Samaria where their eyes were opened.

The King of Israel asked Elisha "Shall I kill them, my father?"

But Elisha said "do not kill them." They had been captured by angels of God, by the heavenly hosts and not by the sword of man. God's power had been demonstrated. Israel's protection was not in military might nor in human strength. For such a situation, God's attitude of grace was the proper thing.

6:23 So he (the king of Israel) prepared a great feast for them, and after they had finished eating and drinking, he sent them away and they returned to their master.  So the bands from Aram stopped raiding Israel's territory.

The war on earth is visible. A corresponding unseen war wages in the heavens, known to those who will pray for God's WILL and presence. That war can be seen by the prophet who lives on his face, seeking God. In New Testament grace, all believers are named priests and those who take up the mantle of intercession find their place in a ministry before the throne to the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

The war in the heavenlies is the real battle and it moves based on the power of prayer. The heavenly hosts wage the REAL war. It was so in the book of Daniel. The Lord's ambush of the enemy in the war story in 2 Chronicles 20 was no doubt a battle of angels. Since these things are written as examples for us (!!) New Testament believers, they are applicable to our today-life.

I realize now that in Desert Storm, I became involved almost solely with the activity of the angels. Not the evil at work, though at times there would be prayer to thwart that activity. "We" - that company of unconnected intercessors - were seeing God's mind and sending angels to do His bidding. Crisis is all about angelic activity! Where the angels and the heavenly hosts go, the battle is won. War is about angels! Victory lies in angels.

I understand now in this hour, that I have seen again, the activity of angels. And they are at work where God sends them in answer to prayer. It is the ministry of angels that alleviates fear. The angels ministered to Jesus in his agony of Gethsemane and I believe their "work" was to calm and give him courage by the direction of the Holy Spirit of God. Somehow the angels are the practical ministers with the Holy Spirit, down here in the awfulness of the world, in times of emergency. The angels go where there is need!

Finding out God's will and praying that, is the absolute focus. Angels are not the focus or answer. God is! But His ministers of war are the heavenly host! And He directs them, praying ones SEE and agree with Him . . . then victory is won. That is scripturally clear and therefore relevant for TODAY, for this Hour of Our Destiny.

O Lord, open OUR eyes (the eyes of our government, our leaders and all "soldiers" on whatever front line, wherever they are) that we may SEE that "those who are with us are more than those who are with them" (the enemy). Let us support our military and civilian "soldiers" with visions of the unseen army available to the friends of Jesus.

For the glory of Your Awesome Name and the increase of the government of the Lord Jesus. Amen.
