Our God Reigns
Our God Reigns
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

One of the most misunderstood, twisted and abused doctrines of Christianity is the subject of authority. It is a neglected study. It is an excuse for tyranny. The church that purports to be of Jesus, is one which today functions as Apostate Israel: "each one doing what is right in his own eyes." True authority, as God ordained it, is scarcely to be found. The Divine Order of authority is clear in scripture. We don't like it so we build a self-reasoned case against it. But it stands...as an eternal doctrine and a practical guide to God's will.

GOD appoints authority to
speak to you what you cannot hear
and to take what you will not give up.

To crush what you have built for you.
To kill the love of 'man.'

God uses authority to bring the Cross to you . . .
to cross the path of your willful rightness.

Authority is the grave of your dreams,
the realm of God's chastening and . . .
the exposure of His jealousy.

The struggles under God's order bring about
an impossible dilemma,
only dissolved by absolute loyalty to HIM.

But in God's bosom, under His hand,
authority is His instrument of blessing.
His own provision is placed there.
His tender ministrations and the
nest of your belonging
lie under the wings of earthly authority.

To see Him above authority is to see He is God.
That He truly can "turn the heart of the king as
the rivers of water."

It is God - not a human - with whom you deal.

Little "gods" have power over you but
He is God of (little) gods.

Find the Father, search out His purpose and
authority will be your liberty, and
in the end - the fulfillment of your eternal dream,
if not your earthly one.

Is God God?  That is the question raised
when authority rolls over your lofty stature and
flattens your greedy hopes.

And the question is for you to answer . . .
it is one God asks of you.
