New resolutions abound every January 1st. I think it is really more essential to do some work of resolution on the old year! I usually spend January reading over journals, considering the events of the past year and putting to rest what is over. THEN I begin to look toward the coming year, asking the Lord for His will and purpose to be revealed . . .

Jacquelyn Nawrocki
Her prayer for repentance

(Lamentations 3:10)
Let repentance be like a bear lying in wait and like a lion hiding in secret places.
Let repentance be behind every bush and tree, let it be around every curve and over every mountain.
Let repentance tear me and consume me as a lion does its prey.
Let repentance turn me off my ways (as opposed to Your ways) and pull me to pieces.
Let it make me desolate (of myself).

Bend Your arrows of repentance and set me as a target for the arrow.

Cause Your arrows of repentance to enter into my heart - the set of my affection and desires.

Bring me to repentance for wanting man to love me. Cause me to love You with ALL my heart. Drive me into the desert of loneliness and despair where I may find that You are my constant, loving companion.

Have mercy on me, for You alone are merciful and forgiving.
