Altogether Forgiven
Altogether Forgiven
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

We are all on a lifelong journey and the core of its meaning, the terrible demand of its centrality, is forgiving and being forgiven. To forgive is to possess holy power over the person you are forgiving, power to change their life for God, for goodness, to free your enemy from his Enemy, that he might see his error. Come with me, beloved of God, come with me to behold the miracle of the universe - forgiveness.

Most hurt is the pain of pride, for which
there is no relief.
Very few hurts are "suffering for Christ."

Pride is . . . being more important than Jesus.

Pride is . . . being in love with "self" more than with God.

Pride is . . . wanting to "feel good" more than desiring God's will.

Pride is . . . caring more for temporary matters than
for eternal permanence.

To be misunderstood is excruciating, but only to dignity.
Being maligned is intolerable, but only to self-worship.
Denied esteem is traumatic but only to ambition.
Persecution is disabling only to the rebellious.

Anger is tempting only to the selfish.
Bitterness is caressed only by the vain.
Revenge is calculated only by the rebel.
Hatred is indulged only by the wicked.

Pride will never, never . . . ever forgive.
