Altogether Forgiven
Altogether Forgiven
Author: Martha Kilpatrick

We are all on a lifelong journey and the core of its meaning, the terrible demand of its centrality, is forgiving and being forgiven. To forgive is to possess holy power over the person you are forgiving, power to change their life for God, for goodness, to free your enemy from his Enemy, that he might see his error. Come with me, beloved of God, come with me to behold the miracle of the universe - forgiveness.

Humility is . . .

Humility is . . . the bedrock of forgiveness.

Without deep humility, true forgiveness is impossible . . .
and will never happen.

HUMILITY is . . .
knowing you yourself desperately require
forgiveness as the greatest of all needs.

Humility is . . . being little, being NOTHING.

Having nothing to defend, to explain, to achieve
because of needing nothing.
No place, no acclaim, no vindication, no praise,
no notice, no . . . anything.

When you are nothing, you need nothing.
Humility is freedom from your own driven ego.

Wrapped in Christ's acceptance and lost in His love,
you need nothing else on this earth, from this world.

Humility is loving heaven's reward more than earth's acclaim,
living only for God's defense
and the inevitable justice of the Last Day.

And yet . . .

humility is knowing what you really deserve
and out of that constant awareness,
freeing all others who deserve the same as you.

Humility . . . it is the Lamb.
Christ's humility as God to
confine himself to humanity . . .
that is a lowliness incomprehensible to
a people glutted with haughty blindness.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus
Who being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped,
but made Himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness,
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross!

Philippians 2

Lamb-surrender . . . in Gethsemane.
Lamb-meekness . . . by chosen helplessness.
Lamb-vulnerability . . . in violence.
Lamb-silence . . . before accusation.

Lamb forgiveness . . . to His own murderers.

Only a Lamb-disposition could take away the sins of the world.
Only the humility of Christ rose above the horrible nature of sin.

His humility lives in me
and my humility is surrender to Him,
to let His nature take over what is
impossible for my nature.

This is the humility that is capable of forgiving
heaps of hurt and wrong.
His humility is the only humility.

The Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world.
