      Introduction

      I want to ask you to have a special attentiveness and hearing to this passage . . .
      like you have never heard it before.

      Romans 1:18-21 New International Version
      “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all
      godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their
      wickedness . . . (and this is what I want you to hear) since what may be known
      about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

      For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities -
      His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen,
      being understood by what has been made,
      so that men are without excuse.

      For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God
      nor gave thanks . . . but their thinking became futile
      and their foolish hearts were darkened.”

      God has made clear who He is.

      From His perspective who He is, is obvious . . .
                    if you just look at what He has made.

      We have a thousand excuses, but God says we are without excuse
      for not knowing who He is - both His power and His divine nature.

      Romans 9:20-21 Amplified Bible
      But who are you, a mere man, to criticize and contradict
      and answer back to God? Will what is formed say to him that formed it,
      "Why have you made me thus?" Has the potter no right over the clay,
      to make out of the same mass (lump) one vessel for beauty
      and distinction and honorable use, and another for menial,
      ignoble and dishonorable use?

      Isaiah 29:16b
      Shall the thing that is made say of its maker,
      "He did not make me"?
      Or the thing that is formed say of him who formed it,
      "He has no understanding"?

      Your life is an expression of your idea of God.
      Notice I didn’t say, “Your idea is an expression of God.”
      I said, “Your life is an expression - of your idea - of God.”

      You are living out,
      and living by,
      and expressing,
      and manifesting,
      and creating . . . your concept of God.

      You are like who you think He is.
      You are just exactly like who you think He is.
      So it is crucial that who you think He is, be the right perception.

      We have romantic illusions about God. We take away the dark side.
      I heard someone do it today. He said, “God doesn’t judge.”

      God has a mysterious dark side, and if we have a romantic illusion
      about God, we can take out . . . what we don’t like. 
                   And then some of us have unworthy ideas of God.

      A. W. Tozer said:  “Idolatry is having ideas about God
                                   that are not worthy of Him.”

      Oswald Chambers said: 
           “After the amazing delight and liberty of realizing what Jesus Christ does,
                    comes the impenetrable darkness of realizing who He is.”

      After realizing what He does . . . 
          comes the impenetrable darkness of finding out who He is.

      God has been moving in me through this unassuming looking little booklet. The sword of the Lord came from that vessel. It came with two edges bringing repentance and acceptance. No, actually acceptance came before the repentance. Acceptance that I believed the lie, acceptance of the fact that my rebellion has been so complete and so deep, acceptance of God as God, acceptance of my life and circumstances as His choice. Repentance has come alongside the revelation. Relief at knowing the truth, refreshing, washing, healing, restoration have also come.
