Many Called but Few Chosen

What does many called but few chosen mean?

What does it mean to follow Jesus? What are the conditions for being His disciple? What is the difference between being called and being chosen? The Shulamite Ministries Message of the Month for May 2015, “Called or Chosen,” has the answers to these questions and so much more.

For many are called, but few are chosen.
Matthew 22:14

When the Light of the Holy Spirit touches on the Scripture, things that have become rote and nearly unremarkable can suddenly blaze with eternal significance. In “Called or Chosen,” the principle of following Jesus is lit up with the Spirit’s anointing, “making all things new” and begging the question – if many are called then why are so few chosen?

“When you follow Jesus, you discover your calling, your position, your special place in the Body, your anointing, and your gifts—things you will never know unless you follow the One who dreamed you, wherever He goes.”

What Martha says here makes refusing to follow Jesus a self-destructive decision, so why have so many done it? Don’t we all want to know our destiny? Don’t we desire a place of belonging and a position of worth? What separates the called from the chosen?

Called or Chosen” gleans rich insight from parables and Jesus’ relationships with His disciples. Martha presents the conditions for discipleship that Jesus Himself gave, but she doesn’t stop there. Jesus also painted a clear picture of the motives at work in the people He called, who would not follow Him. Such is the Lord’s great love for us that He reveals the truth of the hearts of those who will not choose Him, thus remaining called when they could be chosen. Not only does He warn us, He provides a diagnosis and prescription for the hungry, sick and despairing who are desperately seeking LIFE.

“Many are called, but few are chosen.” There is a wealth of wisdom in these seven words, and this timely teaching from Martha Kilpatrick unpacks a great deal of it. Discover what the Holy Spirit has for you in “Called or Chosen” as you experience fresh revelation and anointing on one of the most well-known verses in the Bible!
