What is the Secret of Facing Life?

The secret of facing life is one we must all learn, just as the Apostle Paul did.

I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of facing life, whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need.
Philippians 4:12 AMP

We are called to live victoriously in times of plenty and in times of want. And Paul is absolutely clear in Philippians 4 that facing life is no small thing. There is an overcoming for us, whether we are dealing with the abundance of blessing or the scarcity of need. Have you experienced that overcoming in your life?

Paul’s Secret of Facing Life

Martha Kilpatrick’s Message of the Month for August 2016 delves into the secret Paul reveals and so much more. She also looks at the attacks Satan uses to dissuade us from learning the secret for ourselves. The Secret of Facing Life diagnoses the enemy’s subtler attempts to trip us up. Martha shines new light on the root of persistent discouragement or despair. This teaching also begs the question: does my life reflect the humility and joy of Christ regardless of circumstance?

If the answer to that question is no, then you’re still learning the secret of facing life. And there’s no shame in that! If the Apostle Paul had to learn it, then so do we. Much of this Christian life is miraculous to the point of being incredible. But some parts have to be walked out in faith—one day at a time.

In The Secret of Facing Life Martha says, “The ultimate obedience is to believe.” And to believe is the one work that God assigns to us. It’s no small thing to believe in the goodness and sovereignty of God regardless of what’s going on in your life. But Paul got there, and we can, too—one day at a time!
